All Starr ChoirThe All Starr Choir consists of talented students and musicians from each of Starr Commonwealth's five sites in Michigan and Ohio. Not only do these young men and young women sing their hearts out, but they often couragously share their stories of what life was like prior to Starr or Montcalm Schools.
This top-notch performing arts group gives deeper meaning to the strength-based approach Starr employs in the treatment of youth. We see something good in every child and help them foster their inner talents and strengths. For the students, involvement in the Choir leads to feelings of belonging, acceptance, pride, accomplishment and empowerment.
“Everything we sing will be about the joys and pains of life,” Director Jeff Cornhill said. “Music is a therapeutic tool. We always tie in treatment to every piece of music that we choose and sing. Music always has a message. Why do you think these kids are enjoying this so much? Many choirs don’t process what they are singing and what it does for the individual. There has been a lot of rehashing of pain through this process.”
