Enrollment Requirements
We work with kids who may have been diagnosed with one or more of the following:
- ADD/ADHD
- Anxiety Disorders — Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Asperger’s Syndrome (Outside In specific track)
- Mood Disorders — Bipolar disorder, Depression
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Pervasive Developmental Disorder
- Reactive Attachment Disorder
- Montcalm School treats Dual Diagnoses; some students carry a secondary diagnosis of substance abuse
I.Q. Requirements
- Low average – superior I.Q. (70 and above)

- Self-harming behaviors
- Entitlement
- Manipulation
- Negative peer associations
- Physical aggression (mild to moderate)
- Poor coping skills
- Poor social skills
- Promiscuity
- Social isolation
- Stealing
- Suicidal thoughts, statements and gestures
- Trauma issues
- Verbal aggression
- Withdrawn
- Impulsivity
- Low self-esteem
- Lying
Learning difficulties
- Executive functioning issues
- Processing issues
- Learning disability
- School problems
- Low motivation
- Truancy
- Nonverbal learning disorder
- Sensory integration issues
Conditions requiring additional medical team assessment prior to acceptance
- Diabetic — insulin dependent or controlled by medication and diet
- HIV/Hepatitis B
- Epileptic Seizures — medically controlled
- Closed Brain Injury
- Recent surgeries and extreme medical interventions
- Closed head or traumatic brain injury
- Heart conditions
Montcalm School does not accept students who exhibit the following behaviors or conditions:
- Auditory or visual hallucinations
- Active eating disorders
- Active suicidal attempts
- Fire setting (retaliation or gratification)
- Animal abuse
- Encopresis or manipulation of bodily fluids
- Self-injury that requires medical attention
- Currently in need of detoxification
- Repeated overdoses
- IQ under 70
- Sexually reactive behaviors
- Predatory sexual behavior, opposite and same sex
- Adjudicated sexual offenses
- Diabetes (uncooperative with treatment)
- Pregnancy
- Epileptic seizures (uncontrolled)
- Wheelchair-bound
- Terminal illness
- Conditions requiring 24-hour nursing assistance
