Academics
Many of our students come to us with a history of poor grades, in large part because of long stretches of time spent out of school for behavior issues. The result is often a student whose self-esteem has suffered terribly. They may have given up on school or become resistant to attending at all. The good news is specialized attention and an uninterrupted instruction schedule can make a dramatic difference in a struggling student's academic performance.
We provide a broad range of services from re-integrating students back into the academic arena to providing college prepatory experiences.
Our classes are conducted Monday through Friday during regular school hours in our
on-campus school. Licensed by the Michigan Department of Education, Montcalm School offers a college preparatory curriculum and outside educational opportunities.
Highly qualified and fully certified full-time teachers are licensed by the State of Michigan Department of Education. Our talented teachers assess more than a child's academic progress, they have the skills and take the time to really understand a boy's learning style.
Nearby educational opportunities prepare our students for the future. A community college is conveniently located across from campus in addition to local technical schools in the surrounding area.
Teachers, also active members of the treatment team, are up-to-date on treatment issues and progress as well as academics. This allows seamless treatment for boys from cottage to school to group. Each child is assessed at the beginning and the end of the treatment program.
Students can graduate with a diploma from Montcalm Schools. Or, if appropriate and desired, arrangements can be made for a graduating student to receive a diploma from his home high school.
